  • A large retroperitoneal haematoma was found and explored. Blood loss was about 1.5 litres. The aorta was cross clamped for ten minutes. No aortic pathology was found. Large caseous retroperitoneal lymph nodes were noted and biopsied. Diffuse bleeding was found, with no focal source. A 7 by 8 cm caseating mass was noted in the right iliac region. Two units of packed cells were transfused, as well as two units of fresh frozen plasma. One litre of colloid and 1.5 litres of crystalloid were transfused.
