  • A large amount of clot and blood (1.5+ litres) was noted. The right ovarian vein was found to be separated from the inferior vena cava, and active bleeding was noted at this site. Haemostasis was achieved, packs were left in the abdomen, which was closed. Blood transfusion: 3 units, duration of surgery 2 hours.
