  • Pack removal was delayed for a further 24 hours. The patient became pyrexial (39.8oC), and coagulation became further deranged. Platelet count dropped to 17 * 109/l. D-dimers were elevated. Respiratory function deteriorated, requiring an FiO2 of 1.0, and inverse ratio pressure-control ventilation. The patient died of respiratory failure on Day 21, despite aggressive respiratory management.
